Google’s latest Android 16 Beta 3 update introduces the “Screen-off Fingerprint Unlock” feature, enabling Pixel users to unlock their devices using the fingerprint sensor without first waking the screen. Initially available only on the Pixel 9 series, this functionality has now been extended to all Pixel models equipped with under-display fingerprint scanners.
Enabling Screen-off Fingerprint Unlock:
- Open Settings on your Pixel device.
- Navigate to Security & privacy.
- Select Device unlock > Face & Fingerprint Unlock.
- Choose Fingerprint Unlock.
- Toggle on Screen-off Fingerprint Unlock.
Once activated, you can unlock your phone by placing your registered finger on the designated area of the screen, even when the display is off.
This enhancement streamlines the unlocking process, offering a more seamless and efficient user experience. Previously, users needed to wake the screen or enable features like the always-on display for the fingerprint sensor to function. With this update, such steps are no longer necessary, simplifying device access.
It’s important to note that this feature is currently available in the beta version of Android 16. Users enrolled in the beta program can access it immediately, while others may need to wait for the official release. As with any beta software, exercise caution and ensure your data is backed up before updating.
