WhatsApp Plans to Introduce Motion Photo Support on AndroidWhatsApp Plans to Introduce Motion Photo Support on Android

WhatsApp is developing a feature to support motion photos on Android devices, enhancing the way users share and experience images. Motion photos capture a brief moment of movement before and after a still image is taken, similar to Apple’s Live Photos.

This feature is currently under development and was identified in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.25.8.12). While not yet available to beta testers, it indicates WhatsApp’s commitment to enriching media-sharing capabilities.

Motion photos are available on devices like Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones, where they are referred to as “Motion Photo” and “Top Shot,” respectively. Apple’s equivalent, Live Photos, is already supported on WhatsApp for iOS.

Upon release, users will notice a new button in the gallery, allowing them to choose between sending a static image or the motion photo version. Recipients will be able to view the motion photos in their animated form, even if their device does not natively support this feature.

This development underscores WhatsApp’s dedication to enhancing user experience by integrating dynamic media-sharing options. While the feature is still in development, it is expected to roll out in future updates, allowing users to share more immersive content across individual chats, groups, and channels.
