WhatsApp is testing a “Writing Help” feature for Android beta users, designed to help you craft and polish messages with AI-powered suggestions all while keeping your content private.
What It Is
The Writing Help assistant uses Meta’s Private Processing technology to generate real-time message rewrites as you type. In beta version 2.25.23.7, it offers at least three alternative suggestions in tones like Rephrase, Professional, Funny, Supportive, and Proofread.
Privacy at the Core
Your text is processed through Android’s Private Processing framework, which: – Encrypts and anonymizes your content. – Avoids storing any copies of your messages or AI outputs. – Prevents both WhatsApp and Meta from reading your text.
How It Works
- Enable Private Processing in settings.
- Type a few words — the emoji icon becomes a pen icon.
- Tap to see rewriting options generated on-device.
- Select a tone-specific rewrite to replace your draft.
- Decide whether to use the suggestion — the feature is optional.
Why It Matters
- Speeds up message drafting with consistent, polished tones.
- Protects privacy via on-device processing.
- Offers styles suited for professional, casual, or supportive contexts.
What’s Next
- Currently rolling out to a limited group of beta testers.
- WhatsApp will refine the feature before wider release.
- More tone options could be added in future updates.
